Below are 300 links to resources for information that are accessible through the Internet. These resources can be used to track down phone numbers, e-mail addresses, credit information, personal records (like DMV records, armed forces records and Social Security info, among others), and much more. All of the sites are free to visit, and the vast majority of the services provided are free, though some are links to investigative agencies that charge for their services.
Most of these sites contain links to other sites that can give you access to even more information. You have been guided to literally thousands of pages, all over the world! Feel free to explore the URLs we have collected for you, and wherever else the “surf” may take you.
If you are not successful with a phone or address search, try being less specific; i.e. search for “J Smith” instead of “John Smith”. The person you’re looking for may be listed by first initial or a nickname, and this search will turn up “J Smith”, “John Smith”, “Jim Smith” and more. Always try the most specific search first, then broaden the search if you don’t find what you’re looking for.
The various phone search engines get their information from different sources. Some of the search engines include unlisted phone numbers, but not all unlisted numbers can be found. A search for an unlisted phone may be better directed to one of the Private Investigation agencies listed. Some of the phone search sites provide “reverse searches”, i.e., looking up a name and address from a phone number. This can be helpful to someone with Caller ID service on their phone.
Private e-mail can (and often is) be read by System Administrators. E-mail that has been posted to Internet News Groups can be found by searching the Deja News (http://www.dejanews.com/forms/dnquery.html) or Alta-Vista (http://www.altavista.digital.com) search engines. Be sure to search “Usenet” as opposed to “the Web in Alta Vista.
If you get a message like “File Not found. The requested URL was not found on this server.”, first make sure the URL is exactly as it appears on our list. If that doesn’t help, try gradually deleting the pathname of the URL (i.e., try http://adm1.hamrick.com/names/index.htm, then http://adm1.hamric.com/names/, then http://adm1.hamrick.com/). Sometimes, a site will be restructured, and this method may get you to a place you can explore the site (even if the original link no longer exists).
If the message is something like “There was no response”, the server could be down or is not responding. If you are unable to connect again later, contact the server’s administrator,” try it again a few minutes later, or the next day. Sometimes, heavy internet traffic or server problems will cause a site to be slow or unavailable.
Please keep in mind that due to the dynamic nature of the Internet, some of these sites may move or disappear. Others will certainly be added, and Secrets by Mail will continue to offer updated and expanded versions of this list.
Are links on this list are checked periodically and updated or deleted if no longer active.
