  2. *** OPIA ELECTION OF 2005 OFFICERS ***
During the Member's General Business Meeting held in conjunction with the December 4, 2004, continuing education seminar in Oklahoma City, elections were held to select officers for 2005. Those elected begin or continue service January 1, 2005, as members of the OPIA Board of Directors.

Eric A. Hanson of Newcastle was reelected to a second term as OPIA President. Prior to being elected to his first term as OPIA President, Mr. Hanson was appointed by the Board to fill the vacancy left by the passing of Johnny R. Uhles in 2003. Prior to his appointment, Eric served as 2nd Vice President and President of the OKC Chapter.

Eric Hanson also serves as the OPIA representative on CLEET's Private Security Advisory Committee (PSAC). PSAC members serve in an advisory capacity at CLEET on regulatory and licensing issues relating to private security and private investigators.

Jay R. Bray of OKC was elected to serve as 1st Vice President. J.R. served as 2004 President of the OKC Chapter. Mr. Bray replaces Rusty Marthaler, who has served as 1st Vice President and Continuing Education Coordinator since 1999.

Randy J. Bryan of OKC was elected to serve as 2nd Vice President. Randy served as Vice President of the OKC Chapter for 2004.

Kay Dover of Edmond was reelected as OPIA Treasurer, and begins her 2nd term in that position.

Charles E. Wilson of OKC was elected OPIA Secretary. Charles has been serving as 2nd VP, appointed by the Board to fill the vacancy resulting from the passing of Robert J. Hicks earlier this year.

Eight-term OPIA Secretary Bill L. Howard had earlier announced to the Board that he would not seek an additional term, stating, "I've enjoyed my eight years of serving our members and as a member of the Board of Directors, but I feel the time has come to give it a rest and spend more "me" time. Serving on the OPIA Board requires a serious commitment of time and energy, both of which I seem to have less of with age." Mr. Howard continues to serve as the at-large member on CLEET's PSAC committee, of which he is currently Chairman.

In elections held during the November meeting of the Tulsa Chapter, Roy L. Clugston, Jr. of Tulsa, was elected Chapter President for 2005. Karen Piacenti was elected as Chapter VP.

Roy Clugston and Karen Piacenti replace outgoing Tulsa President Rick Van Auken and Vice President Deborah Lange, both of which did not seek reelection.

During the December 9th meeting of the Oklahoma City Chapter, Robert Smart of OKC was elected 2005 President, and Theresa "Terri" Janko was elected as Vice President for 2005.

The Tulsa and OKC Chapter Presidents serve as two of the seven members of the OPIA Board of Directors.

Information

  1. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION
How do I become a Private Investigator in Oklahoma?

Private Investigators in Oklahoma must be licensed by the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET). This state agency located in Oklahoma City can provide information regarding required training and other licensing requirements. You may want to click here to read CLEET's Rules and Regulations, and obtain online License Applications. CLEET can be contacted at 405.425.2775.

For someone starting without experience, it is sometimes difficult to find employment with an established PI agency, but not impossible. Many PI's have former law enforcement experience, which is of great benefit.

If you ARE licensed or do obtain your license, the OPIA welcomes your membership to the organization. The Membership Application is available by clicking here, or take a minute to read the About Us section.

I hope I've been helpful in answered your questions, but if more information is needed, feel free to contact me.
